A quick thought. In the culture we inhabit, we are constantly bombarded with issues that divide our society on a moral and political basis. Especially now that we have entered election season, the debates on [insert social issue of your choice here] have erupted. Here's the conclusion I have come to: WE ARE ALL WRONG. I guarentee (for those of you that like numbers, that's 100%) that we are ALL wrong about AT LEAST one thing. Not a single one of us on this planet has everything figured out. And that sucks. People on both sides of ANY issue will find Bible verses or scholars, theologians or pastors, teachers or politicians, or WHOEVER and WHATEVER to support their view and deter others from the opposing. At this point, I am finding it virtually impossible to say what is right and what is wrong. The ONLY thing I know to be 100% true is that we are to LOVE OTHERS. THAT'S IT. LOVE OTHERS, especially those who are different than you. Moral: With the sinful world in which we live, all we can do is our best. We each have our own individual relationship with God and it is NOT our job to judge others on the conclusions they have drawn in their relationship with Him. They are doing their best as well. We also cannot hold a person of differing faith to our own values and standards. It's illogical! Demonstrate Christ-likeness in your actions and move on. Of course this doesn't mean we need to compromise our morals and beliefs, but IN THE NAME OF JESUS, can we please start respecting one another? And this goes for all sides of any issue.
Matthew 22:36-40: “'Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?' And he said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets'” (ESV).
So let's all turn inward for a second and do some spring cleaning of our own sins and struggles before we tell others what they can and cannot do. You do not have to agree or understand; I often find myself with no opinion whatsoever. But we must love. WE MUST LOVE.
